Journal of Pak International Medical College (JPIMC)

The Journal of Pak International Medical College (JPIMC) is a peer-reviewed, double-blind, fully open-access biomedical journal published quarterly by Pak International Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan.

JPIMC provides an international platform for the publication and dissemination of scientifically sound, ethically conducted, and methodologically rigorous research that advances medical knowledge, clinical practice, biomedical sciences, public health, medical education, and healthcare research.

The journal welcomes contributions from researchers, clinicians, academicians, educators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers from Pakistan and the international research community.

JPIMC is committed to maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, editorial quality, publication ethics, transparency, confidentiality, and editorial independence.

JPIMC publishes high-quality scholarly work across medicine, dentistry, biomedical sciences, public health, and allied health sciences.

The journal encourages multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research addressing contemporary healthcare challenges, improving health outcomes, advancing scientific knowledge, and supporting evidence-based healthcare practice and policy.

Research articles undergo editorial assessment and external peer review before a final publication decision is made.

Publication Model and Frequency

JPIMC follows a quarterly publication model, with four regular issues per calendar year:

  • Issue 1: January–March

  • Issue 2: April–June

  • Issue 3: July–September

  • Issue 4: October–December

Special issues or supplements may be published when scientifically justified and are subject to the journal's editorial, ethical, and peer-review requirements.

Research articles published in special issues or supplements are subject to the same applicable external peer-review standards as research articles published in regular issues.

The Editor-in-Chief retains overall editorial responsibility for the journal's published content.

Open Access

JPIMC is a fully open-access journal.

All published scholarly articles are made immediately and permanently available online without subscription, registration, access fees, or embargo.

Readers may read, download, copy, search, link to, and reuse published articles in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license.

All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

The CC BY-NC 4.0 license permits users to share and adapt published work for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), the journal, the source, and the license.

Authors retain copyright of their published work while granting JPIMC the right of first publication and the non-exclusive right to publish, distribute, archive, and preserve the work in accordance with the journal's copyright and licensing policy.

Peer Review

JPIMC follows a double-blind external peer-review process.

All submitted manuscripts first undergo an editorial assessment for suitability, scope, originality, scientific quality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and potential plagiarism or inappropriate text overlap.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are sent for external peer review.

Each research article is evaluated by a minimum of two independent external peer reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

During double-blind peer review:

  • Author identities are concealed from reviewers.

  • Reviewer identities are concealed from authors.

  • Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality.

  • Reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts of interest.

  • Reviewers evaluate manuscripts independently.

Reviewers assess manuscripts, as applicable, for:

  • Originality

  • Scientific validity

  • Methodological quality

  • Statistical validity

  • Ethical compliance

  • Clinical or scientific relevance

  • Reporting quality

  • Interpretation of findings

  • Overall contribution to the field

Based on reviewer recommendations and editorial assessment, the possible decisions include:

  • Accept

  • Minor Revision

  • Major Revision

  • Reject

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers when further external assessment is required.

The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately delegated editor.

Editorials, invited commentaries, letters, and other non-research content may undergo an appropriate editorial assessment rather than the full external peer-review process, depending on the article type.

Editorial Independence

JPIMC maintains editorial independence in relation to manuscript evaluation and publication decisions.

Editorial decisions are based on the scientific quality, originality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, relevance, and overall scholarly merit of the submitted work.

Payment of manuscript processing or publication charges does not influence:

  • Editorial assessment

  • Reviewer selection

  • Peer review

  • Editorial decisions

  • Acceptance or rejection

The publisher does not interfere with the scientific or editorial decision-making process.

The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for editorial decisions and the integrity of the journal's published content.

Publication Ethics

JPIMC requires submitted manuscripts to comply with accepted principles of research integrity and publication ethics.

Where applicable, manuscripts must include:

  • Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee approval

  • Appropriate informed consent

  • Consent for publication of identifiable case information or images

  • Conflict of Interest disclosure

  • Funding disclosure

  • Data Availability Statement

  • Appropriate AI-use disclosure

  • Similarity/plagiarism screening

  • Compliance with relevant reporting guidelines

Authors are encouraged to follow appropriate reporting standards, including:

  • CONSORT for randomized controlled trials

  • STROBE for observational studies

  • PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses

  • CARE for case reports

  • STARD for diagnostic accuracy studies

  • ARRIVE for animal research

  • COREQ for qualitative research

  • Other applicable EQUATOR Network reporting guidelines

Case Reports and Patient Consent

JPIMC publishes case reports subject to appropriate ethical and publication safeguards.

Authors must obtain written informed consent for publication from the patient or legally authorized representative, where applicable, when a case contains potentially identifiable clinical information, photographs, radiological images, pathological images, or other identifiable material.

Authors must remove unnecessary identifying information and comply with applicable patient confidentiality requirements.

Case reports should follow the CARE reporting guideline where applicable.

Each case report must contain an appropriate statement regarding consent for publication.

Article Processing and Publication Charges

JPIMC is a fully open-access journal supported partly through transparent article processing and publication charges.

The applicable author fees are:

Fee Policy

No fee is charged at the initial manuscript submission stage.

The PKR 10,000 processing fee is applicable according to the journal's manuscript-processing fee policy.

The PKR 30,000 publication fee is applicable to manuscripts accepted for publication and covers applicable production and publication services.

The total applicable processing and publication charges are therefore PKR 40,000 per accepted article.

Payment of processing or publication charges does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Editorial decisions are made independently of an author's ability or willingness to pay.

No preferential editorial treatment is provided on the basis of payment.

Any applicable waiver or fee-reduction arrangements are described in the journal's Publication Fee Waiver Policy.

Authors retain copyright of their published work.

Published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Users may share and adapt published work for non-commercial purposes provided that appropriate attribution is given to the original author(s), the journal, and the source.
